Affiliate marketing can be an incredible money-making angle for your Internet marketing business. I started that way and there are lots of people who make great livings online selling nothing but products created by someone else. But number one, how do you know if the products will be something people will want to buy, and second, how do you know if they’re any good at all?
Well, there are two ways to guarantee something has a fairly high conversion rate. First, try ClickBank.com, which you’ve probably heard of, and PayDotCom.com, which you may or may not have heard of. One of the cool parts about those two programs is that their search results and categories for products, are based on popularity. The ones that are selling the most will rise to the top.
For example, if you’re looking for a product related to health, and you type “health” into ClickBank, you’ll see the top ten products that are related to health. There’s a very good chance that all of those are converting fairly well. This is also true at PayDotCom.com.
I don’t currently use any of the other massive affiliate network programs like Commission Junction and some of those other ones. You’d have to look at those yourself. But they can also be great ways to go. Look for “affiliate programs” or “affiliate networks” and see if you can do a sort by popularity and you’ll probably find the most popular products. That’s the first way I do it.
The second way that I do it is, when you go to seminars and you start meeting people and you start working with people, or join groups like this, and you say, “Hey, what converts well?” I mean a big part of it is what kind of list do you have? That’s probably the most important part, right? The fact of the matter is, if you try to sell mail order steak to a group of vegetarians, you won’t sell the steak. I don’t care how good your sales letter is! Choosing the right product for your target audience is a big piece of it, but after you get past that you say, “Look, well, what’s the next step?”
The next step is to start talking to people and saying, “Hey, I have a list about….” Let’s say you have a list about Internet marketing, or you have a list about people who are interested in traffic, or you have a list about people who are interested in affiliate marketing or whatever. You might come to me and say, “Hey, Tellman, if I was going to promote one of your products, you know I have a list of a 1,000 Internet marketing people blah, blah, blah. Which products would convert the best?” Well, of course, I’m going to tell you what I think is going to convert the best of my own products if you’re going to do a promotion for me. Make sense? If it’s out of my focus area, I might recommend someone’s products that I know.
But the biggest thing is that you have to try the products you’re going to recommend to other people first. If you don’t do that and you offer a terrible product, your reputation in the Internet marketing world has just hit the skids. Nobody will believe you anymore. So, be sure to buy and try the product before you offer it, no matter who recommended it. Be sure it’s worth buying yourself.
With Internet marketing, those are the two caveats for selling affiliate products. Check the product’s stats at the affiliate product center, get a recommendation from someone you trust, and still, try the product yourself. That’s really all there is to it. The longer you’re online and the further you get into Internet marketing, experience you’ll have with this. If you have an Internet marketing list, this can happen, just by trying things for your own education. You’ll know just what to offer to your list. But make sure that the product you want to promote suites your list, that it’s a product you really love, and that it has a good conversion rate, and your Internet marketing business will roar
