One of the most changing things in Internet marketing isn’t how sales letters are written. It’s not how videos are made or press releases submitted. It’s how often Google changes its mind. One day, you’re on the first page, and the next you may be nowhere to be found. It used to be that SEO (search engine optimization) people could just get links from anywhere in any quantity. Like, you could go out and buy a hundred links all on the same site and the search engines would think it was OK. That was then.

But things changed in the Internet marketing world when Google decided that it only wanted to see links from other sites in your DMOZ category. (DMOZ is the open directory at http://dmoz.org.) What that meant was that if you were in the health niche, for instance, you could get links in body building and even beauty, even if your site was about asthma. Paid linking was still OK, as long as you didn’t buy lots of links on one site or too many links that hit all at once. Google wasn’t happy about those things.

But since May, that fickle old Google has decided that linking is passe. Their newest algorithm shift said that they didn’t like link manipulation schemes. Hmm… That meant that they wanted sites to link naturally to one another. They wanted webmasters to find something really exciting on another site and just link to it because they could. Google decided it no longer wanted to see “links” pages, just for the sake of collecting links. We proved this to ourselves when our blog sunk to #536 from #4 overnight. When we realized it was because we had put up a links page on the blog, and took it down, Google loved us again. We went right back to #4.

Today, it’s all about content. That’s it! Makes it pretty simple, really. Google wants articles, blog entries with more than just a trackback, audio, video, images, and press releases. All of these will become much more important in the results pages. Important directory links may still be OK, but don’t waste time trying to get links from other sites. It just won’t help you.

Google has a new idea of what search should be, and are slowly phasing in what’s called “universal search.” That means that all the different forms of content mentioned above will soon be finding their way onto your search results pages. Since it’s Google’s job to give the best search results possible, is that a big surprise? No. Of course not.

Google leads the pack right now because they provide the most relevant search returns out there, and its good for our Internet marketing businesses because their visitors also convert to buyers better than all the other search engines combined.

Here’s the thing: Give Google what Google wants. Internet marketing is going to become more about filling your site with great content that your visitors will love, regardless of what niche you’re marketing in, be it Internet marketing or poodles. Add an articles directory to your site, and get some articles into directories. Just don’t promote duplicate content. Google only gives credit for that to one site, remember? But make videos that demonstrate a product, audios that give product reviews, and be sure to include pictures with “alt” tags that are keyword rich. Not only will Google love you for all this great stuff, but so will your clients. Happy clients means repeat visitors, and visitors that respect your recommendations and buy your products or services. That’s what it’s all about in Internet marketing, isn’t it?

  • Good thing found at your blog about email marketing! Welldone! You have placed a good information on your blog. But, I want to talk something more about email marketing. Actually, it is not too easy as it seems. Most of the people are under misconception that collecting email IDs and using a bulk email sender can make you successful. But it is not. What do you think? Actually, most of the businesses these days are not selling one product. They are selling different products for diff. niches and for the different markets. So, in this case they should have the different lists of bulk email IDs. Email Marketing is being difficult in these days. But still experiments are being done by a lot of people and companies. I usually keep on trying the products of the different companies. Now a days, some wonderful products are coming in the market that can give you great earning opportunities. I do not want my comment considered as spam here so will not discuss about my blog, but if you visit my blog then you will find, how I am using different products for my email marketing these days and making a lot Really! When I found your blog about email marketing, It was great one and I could not stop myself writing comment? But, last thing, I want to ask, Do you offer newsletter to your visitors or not? Do you know any kind of program to make effective newsletter? Waiting for reply – Thanks – Regards
