Have you heard that “the money is in the list”? It is…list building is the biggest component to making money online. Are you wondering how to get a list started? Have you been buying all sorts of different training programs so now you are overwhelmed with how many “how to it” versions there are? If you are…you are not alone. One of the most common questions that I get asked is, “Is there an easy way to get a list built and start making money online?

My answer, of course, is YES.

Not only is there a simple way, there are about fifty thousand simple ways…but the good news is…you only need one. So the first thing you need to do, no matter which method you are going to follow…is decide what topic, or niche you want to build your list around.

Your best bet is to make it an area that you know something about, and can talk about on a blog, or be able to write a short report that you can offer to people in exchange for their name and email. You don’t have to be an expert, but believe me it helps if you have some knowledge about the topic. It’s even better if you really, really enjoy the topic…that way when you are working on it and writing autoresponder messages and doing the stuff you need to do with an online business…you are having fun.

Another thing to keep in mind, in addition to enjoying it, is that you can have integrity. Sometimes when people are looking to start an online business, it’s because money is tight. We’ve all been there at some point, I know I have…but you really want to be sure that what you are doing is honest and ethical and you’re not just out to make a quick buck. Making a quick buck usually just keeps you in a place of always having to chase a quick buck, rather than having you in the process of building a solid business.

You should spend some time evaluating what is most important to you. This will help you pick the right business and method. You will also want to figure out what hours of the day or week you can devote to learning about list building. If you are serious about earning an income online then you will want to schedule work time into your life, which, if you are like most people, is already pretty busy. If you don’t set a schedule, and you think you will “fit it in when I have time”…you will be in for a surprise. You will never seem to have the time and unfortunately, you will never get a list or any other part of your business built.

If you will set a specific schedule, unplug your phone, turn off your email and do not allow any interruptions…you will be amazed at how much you can get done and how fast you will get your business off the ground. During this focused time, concentrate on learning about list building and then really concentrate on implementing what you are learning and you will be seeing profits sooner than you can imagine.
