When people first come online, they get the idea that they need to have a product to sell. That’s just not true. Not only is it not true, but it’s silly. If you have no presence online, if you have no list of loyal followers, who will you sell your product to?

You really shouldn’t be creating a product until you’ve made your first $100,000 online. Affiliate marketing, selling other people’s products takes a lot of the burden of having your own product away from you. You don’t have to do customer support. You don’t have to worry about setting up a merchant account, collecting the money, or refunds or cancellations. You don’t have to do anything besides sell that product and collect a commission.

Find a System

Another mistake that new marketers make is that they try to follow everyone. They sign up for a hundred differnet lists and are bombarded with emails every day, asking them to buy this thing or that. And it’s confusing! The truth is they really aren’t ready for much of what comes their way. They don’t yet have the skills to implement what the gurus are selling.

The best thing to do is to find someone who has message you can relate to, someone you like and trust. Then, you need to unsubscribe from everyone else’s list and pay attention to only that one person. Follow him or her blindly. Just take their system, whatever that is, and follow it to the letter. Don’t change anything, don’t make any substitutions, and you’ll succeed.

Why?

Because the system is proven to work. If you follow a proven system blindly, a system that has worked before, you will make progress and you will succeed. But you have to follow that system to the letter.

The last ingredient is you. Nothing happens unless you take action and actually DO what the guru tells you to do in his or her course. You can buy all of the information materials in the world, but until you get off your butt and follow just ONE system, you’ll never realize those dreams that live in the back of your mind… ever.

If you just came online and are looking to make money, understand that many people do, and some of us make BIG money. Some folks just want a few bucks to supplement the paycheck. Others need the money to survive. And then, there are some folks that need the money but they fail because they NEVER take action and do what needs to be done to succeed.

If you’re not one of those people, good for you! You are not going to make money overnight, but you will make money by following these seven steps.

1. Pick a Niche

A niche market is one where people are interested enough and are searching for and buying products for online. Some examples are golf, relationships and dating, dog training, or making money. You should definitely pick a niche that excites and interests you… something you can work with for a long time. First, do a search in a keyword discovery tool, such as Google’s free keyword research tool, and see if people are buying in your niche. If a generic keyword for your niche doesn’t get more than 10,000 searches per month, it’s probably not a very good niche. Only four people a day are searching right now for fire pokers, for example. So, that wouldn’t be a good place to start.

2. Buy a Domain

Think of a domain that contains a keyword for your niche. You can buy domains for under $10 a year, and it’s something you’ll need to have. Your own domain online allows you to have your very own part of the Web.

3. Get Hosting

A place to host your domain is important. Some registrars (where you buy your domain) have hosting, or you can get a separate account and just change your DNS information. That means you have to tell your registrar to point the domain to your hosting account. If you use GoDaddy, for example, you can use GoDaddy’s hosting, or you can tell GoDaddy to point your domain to Host Gator, for example. Both are places that have inexpensive services and are very reliable.

4. Build a Squeeze Page

A squeeze page is a single page that includes a headline, some bullet points that outline the benefits of what you’re offering, and an optin box, which you’ll use to collect names and email addresses of people interested in your niche. To get the code for your optin box, you’ll need to sign up for an autoresponder account, which will supply the code for you. The autoresponder company will also house the names and addresses of the people that sign up and it will allow you to send automatic and broadcast messages to them.

5. Choose products

You’ll want to have products to sell to the people on your list so that you can begin to make money. The first thing you should do is go to a site like ClickBank or Commission Junction to find products for your niche. So, if you choose the golfing niche, you may want an ebook that talks about having a better swing, for example. You should buy the products that you want to sell to your list and to make sure that they’re quality information. Sending bad products to your list will give you a bad reputation, and that’s the last thing you want.

6. Write emails for your autoresponder

You’ll want to write at least four articles for your niche that outline problems that people in your niche are having. Then, at the end of each article, offer the folks on your list a product that solves that problem. Let’s stick to the golf example. Talk about putting issues in your article, and at the end, offer the solution… an ebook about improving your putting skills.

7. Send Traffic to Your Squeeze Page

There are many different ways to send traffic to your squeeze page. Some are free, while others are paid. You can set up a blog and write about your niche. Send people to your squeeze page from there. You can write articles and submit them to article directories, and send people to your squeeze page. You can use Google AdWords, post comments in forums for your niche and on blogs that pertain to your niche, or your can use Ezine advertising. Figure out which type of traffic works best for you and then, use it religiously.

So you decided you are ready to learn how to make money online. I have a question for you: Can you handle working three jobs? If you are new to internet marketing and you work a regular job, then I’ve got the best bad news for you that you will probably ever hear. It’s bad, because it means you are going to have to juggle for a while and be really, really focused on getting your internet marketing business up and running. It’s even worse because you are going to have to put in time that right now, you don’t have. So why is this the BEST bad news?

It is the best bad news, because it is only temporary. The fact that you are ready to learn how to make money online means that you are only months, maybe weeks, and hopefully only days away from having your first taste of online profits. And I’m not talking about some get rich quick scheme…I am talking about building a solid online business, with a growing list of buyers, that will bring you money for years and years to come. I know, because I have made millions of dollars online, and I started exactly where you might be right now…pretty much broke.

So how did I do it? Or better yet, how can you do it? You are going to have to decide what you want, and decide what you are willing to do in order to get it…and no matter which area, or niche, you decide to build your business in…you are going to have to focus on that and nothing else until you start seeing money come in. It may not be easy, but it’s really, really simple.

Let’s get back to the three jobs. This sounds depressing but it’s really not. Your first job is the one you go to every day to make money and pay your bills. The other two jobs in addition to that, are the ones that will set you free from ever needing a job again. You will be learning and implementing. Learning everything you can about online marketing and getting a list built, and implementing every step that you are told to do. That’s it, those are your two new jobs…learning and implementing.

To me, this is the easiest thing in the world, I mean, it just makes sense. Learn new things that help you grow an online business, and implement them. It’s the implementation part that pretty much kills it for a lot of people. It seems like it is easier for most people to learn something, think about it, believe it makes sense, and then move on to learn what the next part will be without taking the time to implement. This is a huge mistake, and one that I stress in all of my training materials…Read the step, DO the step, then move on…and DON’T move on until you have done the step before. Period.

So start now. Do what you can immediately. Shut off the phone, ignore your email, say no to a few plans with your friends and start your two new jobs. It’s even better if you can set a specific time you can work every day. Learn and implement. Do this and keep doing this and before you know it you will have an awesome business built, complete with a list of paying customers, and you will be out of job number one and into massive profits in your own business. That’s it…that is how to make money online…learn and implement!
