Killer Social Bookmarking Tactics You Need to Know About

Social bookmarking has become a great way for webmasters to get traffic to their sites. People see your Digg, StumbleUpon, or Reddit vote and they’re intrigued. They want to come to your site and see what you have going on that will interest them. Bookmarking sites are a kind of search engine for folks looking for specific information or for simply surfing the Web.

The difference between Google and Digg is that Digg and the other bookmarking sites are user-driven, rather than spider-driven. People vote on the sites and information they like best, and they share it with other folks so they can vote for it, too. Of course, people also have the option of burying stories, so you want to be sure that you’re pursuing social bookmarking in just the right way.

First off, the title of your bookmark doesn’t have to be the title to your article, website, or video. In fact, it probably shouldn’t be, unless you have a really curiosity arousing title devised for it. That’s the key. You need to get people interested enough to click through. Remember you’re competing with millions of other sites and other bookmarks online.

Here are some titles skimmed from Digg today:

  • “A Dangerous Dysfunction
  • “The Drinking Man’s Guide to the Hangover”
  • “Russian Cat Theater”

I mean, come on… Who wouldn’t want to see cat’s perform? But do you get the idea? It’s all about getting people to click through to your bookmarked site, whatever it is.

You also want to write a great description for the bookmark. This extra bit of information should be designed to increase the curiosity that you began to arouse in your title. Don’t give away the whole summary, just enough to make people click. This works for articles, websites, videos, or blog posts.

However, when it’s a blog, people make the mistake of bookmarking the entire blog, which happens when you bookmark the root domain. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but you can only do it once.

What you want to do is bookmark the post. To do that, you simply click on the title of the post. The URL in your address bar should then look something like this: http://blogaddress.com/post number/post title or it can have a p=number at the end, if folks haven’t changed their permalink structure. But that’s what you want to bookmark, not the whole blog.

The last thing to remember is that you need to bookmark more than just your own content for your bookmarking to be effective. You need to become part of the community and offer sites of interest or you’ll be considered a spammer. You really don’t want that. So, when you find a site you really like, be sure to add it to one of the bookmarking sites that you frequent and give value to the community at large, as well as offering your own information for their consideration.

Social bookmarking sites are powerful, if you use them properly. They can be helpful for lead generation, as well as getting traffic. Article Marketing – 9 Key Components to Writing a Good Article

Writing a good article is not as difficult as a lot of people think it will be. So many people just freeze up when I suggest article marketing as a way to drive traffic to their website. I really don’t get it…here are 9 simple ideas that if you follow them, will have you writing good articles right away.

What makes an article good?

  1. Content. First, foremost and above all else! If you are providing good content the rest of it doesn’t really matter too much.
Everything else can be improved upon with practice, experience or by paying someone else to do the writing for you if you have to! But the content…that is YOU…that is where your experience, your knowledge comes in. If you give good content the reader really won’t care if you have a run-on sentence.
  2. Provide value. OK, this is part of content…but it is so important it bears repeating! Be factual and solve a problem for someone so they can learn from you! Just don’t try to solve all their problems in one article!
  3. Keep it short and simple. Don’t write a 1000 page book. A good length for most articles is 400-600 words…that’s about 1 page. Each paragraph should be a couple of lines. Provide lots of “white space”…it makes it easier on the eyes and people are psychologically more likely to read it because it looks “easier” and short.
  4. Headlines. Build curiosity about the subject. Using a number in the title can be great, like 5 ways to…3 critical steps…top 10 methods…success at ___ in 7 easy steps. Numbered reasons are not the only types of headlines, but they make it easy for you to build your article!
  5. Opening paragraph. This is just a short explanation of what you are going to cover…it should reinforce, or support, the headline. Basically you are saying-really quickly-what you are going to tell the reader.
  6. The body style. I’m focusing on the numbered reason style for this article because it is an easy way to help you organize your content. Just be sure that your numbers match the number in your headline. And, for whatever reason, odd numbers seem to work best…with one major exception-the top 10 list is awesome. So if you don’t have 10, then make it an odd number.
  7. Closing paragraph. In a sentence or two, what did you just tell your reader about? Keep this a positive statement.
  8. Your resource box. This is where you put your “by-line”, how people can reach you for additional information. Make sure you have your website here or you won’t get much traffic!
  9. Keywords. Use keywords for your topic in your headline, opening and closing paragraphs. If you can sprinkle them throughout the article that is great, but it is better to write naturally then spending a ton of time trying to force in keywords!

Look, I am not a great book author…I’m no Hemingway or Shakespeare…but I don’t pretend to be-and better yet, I don’t have to be! That’s not what article marketing is about. Follow these 9 easy guidelines and use article marketing to drive traffic to your website and increase your business.

List Building Tip – Don’t Wait For it to Be Perfect

It is entirely possible to get overwhelmed when you are just starting out in internet marketing…you see all the things that you are supposed to do and learn to have successful home based internet marketing businesses and just, sort of freeze up. The best advice I can give you is to just get started-today! Right now! Start building your list…it really isn’t that hard.

Maybe you haven’t decided on the “perfect” idea for your newsletter. Who cares? Start it anyway! You can improve it later! That is really the best way to make progress. Start before it is perfect. Get your domain hosted. Get your website up. Start building your list.

Start with some paid co-registration. We’re not talking thousands of dollars here, guys! Focus on spending maybe $50 to get things up and running…to get the ball rolling.

If you don’t already have your website up-then do it! Follow a proven template. We provide lots of examples. I don’t believe people should spend their time reinventing the wheel! With a good model to follow, you can have a simple website up in just a couple hours. There is really no excuse.

One of the best ways to get a website up quickly is by using WordPress.org…you can use one of their free themes… there are lots of plug-ins so you can customize it. But you don’t have to make it perfect right off the bat! Make it “good enough”…and get it up. The prettiest, most perfect website won’t make you a dime if it isn’t live and available for people to subscribe to!

So, you have a website and basic idea for your ezine…and you have bought some co-registration names to get started. Now focus on list building and improving what you started.

Every day work on growing your list and building your content.

People often ask me if they can build their list by going to a live event in their area, their town, or an industry event. The answer is definitely, yes! This is one of the best ways to build a list!

When you are going to be meeting people in person be sure to have business cards with you. Print some out yourself or get them printed…if you have time you can get some cheap, sometimes even free, online…but if the event is, say tonight (!) you can still get business cards done.

Just like your website and ezine, your business cards don’t have to be perfect! Just be sure they have all the basics…including your website address and that those basics are spelled correctly!  The card can be as simple as your name and a message “Go to this website to learn about ‘blank.'” Look, you can make your card better and more memorable-but it is better to have a simple card then not having any because it wasn’t perfect!

Meet people…introduce yourself…find out what you might have in common with other people there…and give them your card. Ask people to go to your website and opt-in to get your information.

The best tip I can give you…whether you are just starting out or wanting to super charge your list building…is don’t wait for it to be perfect. None of it has to be perfect…in fact, it never will be! Not your ezine, not your website…these are growing and evolving things. So get them out there-right now!

List Building Using Super Responsive Squeeze Pages

Landing page, opt-in page, squeeze page…they are all the same thing. Different people call them different things…I usually use the term squeeze page. The goal of a squeeze page is list building. Basically what it does is capture information about a visitor to your page. You drive traffic to the page, and have an offer…something of value that your visitor would want. In exchange for your gift or report, your visitor fills in their information. Boom…they are on your list.

Here are three tips to build super responsive squeeze pages.

Tip 1: Testing

One thing about squeeze pages that a lot of people don’t do is testing. A squeeze page is really, really easy to put up, but you want to make sure you are testing different things to get the most response out of your page. An obvious place to start is with the headline. The difference between the response to one headline over another can be HUGE and can be the difference between making a little bit of money and a whole ton of money.

You will want to start split-testing your pages, and this can be a really simple process if you use the tools that come with your AWeber or 1Shopping Cart account. You can also use Marketing Makeover Generator, or Ad Trackz, both work really well and are pretty inexpensive and easy to learn.

Tip 2: Use bullet points

Tip number two for building a very responsive page is to use bullet points. You should make each bullet point a very short statement about the benefit someone will get if they sign up for whatever it is you are offering. Make sure you don’t have huge long list of 10 or 12, you really only need 6 or 7. Also, keep this in mind…don’t put a lot of space between each point. What I have found is that when I have my bullet points really close together, people can read through them much faster and so they get to learn about ALL of the benefits I am offering them. This increases the opt-in rate. More info, more benefits, more opt-ins.

Tip 3: Be above the fold

And finally, try to keep your key benefits “above the fold”.  What do I mean by this? Well, you want your information to be on the screen in front of your visitor without them having to scroll down to read everything. If possible, you should try to have your opt-in box above the fold as well, although this can be tricky, especially if you have seven bullet points. Think about it like this…the easier it is for people to “get” what you are offering, the more likely they will be to fill in your form, and the more people you will get signed up to your list…pretty simple.

No matter what you call them, the squeeze page is the tool for list building. To maximize your results follow these three simple tips to build a super responsive squeeze page.
