People think that success online comes quickly, and for some, it may look that way, but in reality, becoming rich takes years of study, time, and effort to make it happen. Here are the bios of six multi-millionaires and a brief glimpse at the foundations they laid before making it big online:

Tellman Knudson:

Tellman was online for two years before hitting it big with List Crusade in 2004. This teleseminar series of interviews with some of the big names in direct marketing and personal development helped him to build a sizable list very quickly. That impetus propelled him to an $800,000 income that year alone. Now, his company has more than 10 employees and makes millions of dollars a year. It has taken five years to build his company to that level.

Shawn Casey:

Shawn comes to online marketing as a lawyer and CEO of some Fortune 500 companies. Yet, his first success was his ebook “Mining Gold on the Internet,” which helped him to achieve success and become a multimillionaire online. But, he wrote that book, which takes aim at all the scams that were existent online at the time, back in 1999. He didn’t become a multi-millionaire overnight.

Mark Joyner:

Mark was a U. S. Army Officer and Cold War Veteran of Military Intelligence. He started online way back in 1995, and is considered to be the father of the ebook. His publication of “Search Engine Tactics” has been downloaded more than 1 million times. Though Mark is also a multi-millionaire, he really started his business when Internet marketing was practically nonexistent.

Matt Bacak:

Matt Bacak had some failures before becoming a success, but he started in business when he was 12 years old. Though his fan base is well over 300,000 people now, he has been an Internet marketer for more than 8 years. He worked very hard to get where he is today.

Alex Mandossian:

Alex has taught more people about teleseminar hosting than anyone else online. However, Alex started his online business back in 1991. In the past 18 years he has made more than $233 million in sales and profits. But Alex came online with a solid business background, and has consulted for some major U.S. businesses, like Dale Carnegie, Pinnacle Care, and 1Shopping Cart to name only three of them. His offline successes propelled him to online success, but it definitely didn’t happen overnight.

Rich Schefren

Rich formed Strategic Profits in 2004, and through it, he teaches online entrepreneurs to strategically build their businesses. Before that, he spent 20 years building his online business and making his online activities a major success story. Though the company makes millions of dollars per year, it certainly didn’t happen overnight.

What’s the moral of the story? You can’t come online with absolutely NO experience and make a million dollars overnight. It just doesn’t happen. As you can see from the above mini stories, these self-made online millionaires have taken the time to learn how to build multi-million dollar businesses, and that’s the key. You can’t possibly do the same thing, unless you take the time to learn how it’s done. Overnight, get-rich-quick schemes are just that… schemes, and they just don’t work.

There are three main principles needed to have a successful internet business.  All three principles are closely interrelated and go far beyond just getting traffic to your website.   If you want your internet business to prosper and put money in your pocket, you need to learn all three principles.  If you apply them effectively, you will get massive, massive traffic to your web site and sales rolling in like you could never possibly imagine.

The skills that are so necessary to put into action are the three most leveragible skills in internet business today.  And, directly as they apply to internet marketing, if you learn one or all three of these skills, you will far and away make the most money of others in the same niche.  You will find that every single internet business training course, program or system that exists out there goes back to one of these primary skills.

The first one is the one I am most fond of and that is list building.  If you learn how to build a huge and massive list, you will be able to make as much money as you want.  Your list is the lifeblood of you internet business.  It is clearly the most determining factor of whether your internet business will be hugely successful or plummet into disaster.  Building a massive list of highly responsive subscribers and continuing to grow the list on an ongoing basis is the key to building a successful internet business…list building is the name of the game!

So, if list building is the key, why are there two other main principles that are needed to have a successful internet business?

The second principle is traffic generation.  If you do not have any traffic coming to your website or at least coming to the page or the system you’re building your list with, you can’t very well build a list to begin with.  You have to get traffic and it’s absolutely necessary.  You always want to drive traffic to a place that is going to build your list for you.

Finally, there is copy writing.  If you can write amazing sales letters or incredible sales copy, you will be able to write your own paycheck, as long as there is traffic coming to the copy.  Ultimately, you drive traffic to a page that has great copy and the copy converts that traffic and thus, grows your list.  Then, at the push of the “send” button and within minutes you can promote to your list, get instant traffic that traffic goes to a sales page with good copy and that copy then sells your offer. 

To build a successful internet business, it is necessary for all three principles to be working together: list building, traffic generation and copy writing.

When you tell your friends and family that you’re trying to make money online, do they sneer at you and mention that you’re going to the “dark side”? Do they laugh and call you a “spammer”? Do they tell you that you’ll never make a dime online, and to give up before you waste your time and money? Those are some of the more common responses when you admit to trying to create a business online, and here’s the deal… you can’t let that bother you.

In the scheme of things, the Internet is still relatively new, especially when it comes to business. And when you think about the majority of people online, you’re talking people who read email and maybe a newspaper or two. They surf, they play games, and generally just see the Internet as a place to hang out — by themselves or with others in chat rooms and forums. That’s cool, but they’re not seeing the Internet for what it really is… a great place to do business.

Don’t misunderstand. There are sleazy, scamming people on the Internet who want to take your money and give you nothing of value in return. Yet, there is a group of honest business people who are teaching other people how to make money because they have made tons of money themselves.

This is the Gold Rush time. It won’t last forever, but for now, be glad that the rest of the population is clueless. They don’t understand the principles of lead generation, of bonding with an audience, and of selling people stuff that they want to buy. All they see are commercials on television from the FTC, warning them not to be scammed, which is also cool, but outsiders generally tend to take what they see at face value.

So, here’s the thing: If you want to get in on the Gold Rush that’s been happening over the past ten years or so, you need to take action! Stop listening to the naysayers. They’ll shut up quick enough when you show them that your bank account has grown. It’s amazing at how quickly they’ll become believers, and support you 100%.

Today, you need to start concentrating on lead generation and building that list of hungry subscribers in a niche that you love. Give them cool information about your niche. Address the problems that people in that niche are having, and sell them products that solve those problems. When you break it down, it really is that simple.

People often wonder how they can build an Internet business, and that’s really not a hard question. Yet, they see the promises of online scammers who tell them they don’t need to work, that they can make a ton of cash overnight, and that they can sleep through the whole thing. That’s just wrong.

However, the steps to follow in creating an online business are really quite simple when you break them down, but you do need an entrepreneurial spirit. When things get hard, you can’t give up, and you have to be the type of person who’s good at solving problems because they will arise. But, if you think you’re game, here are the steps:

1. Lead generation: This means building a big email list that you can mail to at any time. You need to set up a squeeze page with an opt-in box that allows people to give you their information. And you need an autoresponder service that will provide the code for the box, store the names and email addresses, and allow you to mail out to your list whenever you like.

2. Traffic: You need to send traffic to the squeeze page you have built, and there are many ways to do it. You can write articles and submit them to article directories. You can write press releases, announcing any news involved with your business. You can write in a blog every day and send people to your squeeze page. You can also buy traffic for pay-per-click services and ezine advertising. But, there are many more forms of traffic to learn and use.

3. Affiliate Products: You’ll need something to sell, and instead of selling your own product, you’ll be better off selling products created by others. That way, you don’t have to deal with customer service, finance, or product creation until you have a good foothold online. You can find these products in affiliate product directories online, such as ClickBank or Commission Junction. But you need to buy them and try them yourself before offering them to your list. Offer a bad product once and your credibility will be severely damaged.

4. Consistency: Every good businessperson needs to be consistent with his or her marketing efforts. You can’t expect to write to the people on your list once per month and make money. It won’t work. You have to mail to your list at least three times a week, if not every day, to keep your momentum running.

5. Coaching: The steps above are not difficult to read about, but when you put them altogether, especially if you’re running a one-person show, you’ll need a mentor — a person or a company that can show you the way. There are many nuances in Internet marketing and if you don’t know what they are, you’ll have a much harder time becoming successful. Why waste the time when you can shortcut the path to your goal using someone else’s expertise.
