Internet Marketing Strategies – Applying the Golden Rule to Traffic Generation new blog post
Traffic is an important internet marketing tool. Golden Rule traffic is a strategy…and internet marketing strategies are what take you from making some money and having a business to making a lot of money and having a fantastic business.
The Golden Rule is not a new concept, and it can be applied to a lot of things in life. I figured it should be applied to traffic, too. What is “Golden Rule” traffic? It is a term that I coined, based on the concept. I went to Wikipedia and I typed in “Golden Rule”–here’s what they came back with:
“The Golden Rule, the ethic of reciprocity”
“The Golden Rule is a fundamental moral principle which simply means ‘treat others as you would like to be treated.’ It is arguably the most essential basis for the modern concept of human rights. Principal philosophers and religious figures have stated it in many different ways.”
Examples of the Golden Rule are found through the ages, in all religions and philosophies.
Ancient Greek Philosophy
“Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.”
“What you wish your neighbors to be to you, such be also to them.”
“Do not do to others what would anger you if done to you by others.”
“What thou avoidest suffering thyself seek not to impose on others.”
Similar Views in Other Traditions
Buddhism: “Putting oneself in the place of another,” “one should not kill nor cause another to kill,” “One who, while himself seeking happiness, oppresses with violence other beings who also desire happiness, will not attain happiness hereafter.”
“The Dalai Lama has stated: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.”
: “Ascribe not to any soul that which thou wouldst not have ascribed to thee, and say not that which thou doest not.”
Baha’i faith
Christianity: Matthew says, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
“Love Your Enemies: ‘But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.’”
Confucianism: “Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.”
Hinduism: “That one I love who is incapable of ill will, and returns love for hatred.”
Islam, Jainism, Judaism, I could go on and on. Pretty much what they all boil down to is if you don’t want it done to you, then don’t do it to someone else!
So that’s the basic principle…and we all learned this when we were kids, or at least I hope you did, and it makes a big, big, big difference when you’re doing things on line.
To me it means build relationships. By creating good relationships and treating people right, you will have lots of traffic…Golden Rule traffic. Think about what you are doing…if someone did that to you, would it piss you off? Then don’t do it! Be nice and play fair.
Obviously, the Golden Rule goes far beyond just getting traffic to your website, but if you apply it effectively to your business, incorporate it as one of your internet marketing strategies, you will get massive, massive traffic to your website like you could never possibly imagine.
