The Conversion is Never Complete

One of the most important activities that an Internet marketer can pursue is testing to improve conversion. By making incremental changes in your squeeze pages, sales pages, and any other pages you have that touch your customer, you can improve lead generation and make more money. Due to the fact that most online entrepreneurs are one-person shows and the massive amount of work there is to be done, this is often overlooked. You can’t afford not to always be testing!

The first thing you should concentrate on improving conversion through is your headline. Just by changing the headline and doing an A/B split test (the first customer sees headline 1 and the second, headline 2), you can bee which headline performs better and then, just keep swapping new headlines to replace the headline that lost.

You can find some really great headlines online, just by searching Jay Abraham and the “100 Greatest Headlines Ever Written.” Swipe one of those each time, meaning use the general structure, but adapt it so that it works for what you’re doing. That’s the easiest thing to do.

After you have tested your headline, you can test your order button, your offer, the background color of your page, and your price point. But, you can only test one element of your page at a time, if you’re A/B testing, because otherwise, you won’t know which element improved your conversion.

If you want to test more than one element of your page at the same time, you can always use Google Website Optimizer, which allows you to test different elements with multiple variations. This is often called “Taguchi” testing, and Optimizer’s free service can be very valuable to you if you know the slightest amount of HTML.

If you’re just starting out, Website Optimizer probably isn’t for you, but you still need to be testing, so do it the slower way. Start with your headline and keep changing the loser until you have a conversion rate above 3% or better.
